Forty-five years ago, in the 1980's, I was fascinated with the content of many courses, tapes and seminars on "Personal Development and Success". I spent a lot of money and a great deal of time pursuing this interest. I bought many classics like "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, "How to win friends and influence people" and "The art of public speaking" by Dale Carnegie, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey, "Nothing Down" by Robert Allen, "The Givers and the Takers" by Chris Evert and Bruce Feld, Atomic Habits" by James Clear - how to build good habits and break bad ones. Many of these books had been written around 1935, the year I was born. The hundreds of principles all these books and tape programs contained were all 'keys' to greater success in every aspect of life, despite all this. I was not making the progress that I had hoped for. I was moderately successful, but I was not reaching the goals that all these resources suggested could be mine. I was puzzled. I came to realise that the problem was my 'attitude'. I was learning all these skills, growing in knowledge, but I was not really putting the principles into practice daily in every situation in my life. 'Character Development' does not seem to be much in vogue in our era, but this book will provide you with many tools to improve your life. Here are some important words which define 'character' that seem to have been allowed almost to disappear from common usage in our era. Honesty, reliability, courtesy, punctuality, integrity, courage, patience, responsibility, kindness, compassion, confidence. Many of the principles in the twelve chapters contained in this book you are holding may be new to you. When they are worked on diligently and applied to every circumstance in your life, that practice will enable you to enjoy a more successful, wealthier, healthier, and happier life. Brian H. Butler D.O., B.A., F.A.S.K.
