The Planet, Plantere is peopled by a race of sentient motor cars. They have their own societies, their culture and their cultures. The planet is also home to huge, vicious Yellow Bears, who also have quite complex cultures and neither species trusts human beings. When humans arrive on Plantere to exploit the natural resources, there can only be one result - hostilities between all three.
