How cold war posturing has become a global conflict.
Can Earnest successfully oppose the Net Zero campaign?
Earnest Archer's goal is to end the Cold War, between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies, which has dominated his years in education. He enrols to study engineering and to continue for a PhD in management science. He experiences difficulties as a postgraduate and is unable to complete a PhD when the British Government does not renew further funding of his thesis about devolution, because it wants to retain central control. As he predicted, the Cold War ended with devolution to checkpoint diplomacy and cross-border religion.
He works as an engineer then retrains as a high school science teacher and follows news reports of major climate developments by the superpowers, who are now in a climate war. He fears it could become a real war, with fighting to gain exemption from Net Zero emissions. He is sceptical of climate science's case against fossil fuels and predicts that the Net Zero campaign will fail to reduce global warming. He is in a group who propose to replace the Net Zero Campaign with individual action to earn, consume and vote as best they can in accord with their climate beliefs.
