Tan Taigi (1709 -1771) was a major haiku poet, who along with Buson, headed the Basho revival and helped revitalize haiku in eighteenth century Japan. As Taigi lived in Kyoto, his haiku seasons often reflect the social side of things and we get many cultural vignettes of the Edo period. This is the first book in English solely devoted to Taigi and includes translations of about 740 haiku, with the original Japanese and romaji, as well as a brief introduction, reading list and notes.

Earl Trotter is the translator of Haiku Master Onitsura, Tao Yuanming: The Complete Works and 100 Poems from the Chinese, as well as editor of reissues of various works of Japanese literature.
