In a small town in the Canadian Rockies, six circus elephants stampede and escape into the wilderness. It's 1926 with the country embroiled in a momentous election campaign. So much for historical facts. Frank Burton has been telling wildly entertaining versions of these events for seventy-eight years. Now his grandson has to unravel the yarns. There's adventure, heroism, romance, Jenny of course, and a dog named Hector... A healthy female Asian elephant can weigh three tons. Myrtle was pretty big but not healthy and so was probably around two and a half tons, although weight and speed were not the calculations uppermost in Frank's mind. In the last seconds left to him, ninety percent of his brain was running through the possible ways to make her stop, the remaining ten percent trying not to think about what would happen if she didn't.
