The Search For More: Finding True Contentment When Good Things Fail Us

As followers of Jesus, how are we to live our lives? Common consensus today seems to lead one direction, but Scripture instructs us to take a different path. All too often what we think will satisfy quickly fades instead. To leave a lasting mark, we must do more than merely promote ourselves. Historically, those who made an enduring impact did so by promoting Jesus and his kingdom. Scripture encourages us to seek wisdom. But according to St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 13, the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake is meaningless and can lead to pride. Entertainment might be useful for recreation and building friendship but it fails to solve the existential struggles we face every day. Money and possessions appear to offer security but are fleeting and superficial. The human heart desires more than what can be purchased. Scripture instructs that knowing Jesus is the only thing that will satisfy our heart desires and give us lasting joy. That path takes us on an exciting journey that outshines all that wealth, fame, and entertainment can offer, leading us to true and lasting greatness.
