Something Old, Something Newt: (#1, The Vegan Witches of Redondo Beach, California’s most hilarious magical sleuths)

said Hayley West. There must be a better way.

Hayley has to find a better way fast, because the dead guy in her herb patch died a very unnatural death. The L.A. Times reported it as the so-called vampire murder.

Evil magic is afoot.

The police aren’t quite up to speed on the evil magic concept, so Hayley and her fellow witch Skylar have to help. Could the killer be the dead man’s girlfriend, an actress on The Young and the Restless? Or what about the mysterious man with the ruby stud in his ear who makes Hayley’s heart go banga-banga-banga? Should she worry that his name is Killin?

To figure that out, Hayley and Skylar need powerful magic spells. But using untested spells is like jumping off the roof with wings on your arms. They have to stick the landing, because clearly, they can’t let the magical murderer go free.

And then everything that’s clear turns out to be wrong. That’s magic for you.
