Biscochitos Para San Miguel (Cookies for Saint Michael) is a delightful simple bilingual introduction to native Coloradan and New Mexican cultural traditions by the noted santera (saint-maker), Teresa May Duran. Based on a conversation with her own grandchildren, Duran gives a simple introduction to the tradition of making retablos (devotional paintings) of Catholic Christian saints and teaches a view of Saint Michael as a protector of children for whom offerings of cookies are made. Illustrated by Duran herself, the book is presented in both Spanish and English to help children learn both languages, and includes a biscochitos recipe and an ancient prayer to Saint Michael.
