Every day brings a new adventure for Dylan as he plays with his favorite monster trucks. The story is fun, interesting to follow, and educational. It introduces children to the many benefits of learning American Sign Language, which has been shown to increase cognitive faculties and problem-solving skills.
Studies have shown that children who know ASL have higher reading levels and 15-20% improvement in vocabulary over their peers who have not learned ASL. In addition, ASL is a beautiful, powerful language and the sixth most common language in the United States.
Author Kathleen Marcath was inspired by her three-year-old grandson’s love of monster trucks, her studies of ASL and Deaf culture. She noticed the need for more children’s books that were inclusive of ASL. Her goal is for all families, hearing and Deaf, to think of ASL just like any other language.
This is the first book illustrated by Isaac Liang Zhi Jie, a Deaf illustrator based in Singapore. Throughout the book’s illustrations, Isaac knew that the head’s tilt and the direction the eyes were looking were important.
Pradeep Mehra’s team added design and color to the pages giving it the bright polished finish.
