Joy and Payne were best friends. In fact, Joy was pretty sure that their moms had stood belly to belly while pregnant (mostly because her mom said they did); thus, the beginning of the bestest besties journey… and the triple belly-bump victory dance. Joy couldn’t help thinking that she had the bestest bestie in the entire world! She was convinced that Payne would be her best friend forever. And Payne felt the exact same way. But then, that’s when they were fifth graders. Middle school scared the bejeezus out of Joy, Payne too. Because middle school was where good friendships went to die.
