The Corpus Christi Writers series strives to present diverse views and perspectives that, taken as a whole, reflect what people in South and Central Texas are thinking. Many writers from previous anthologies return to this sixth book in the series, and many new writers join them. Youthful exuberance coexists with polished style. The themes vary and express the unique viewpoints of the writers. Cursive writing makes a comeback in this volume, and a typewriter makes a guest appearance. Ranching, fishing, and the roaring waters of the Gulf of Mexico provide a strong sense of place. Strong female voices speak out about spousal abuse, violence directed at women, and a desire for identity outside traditional male-defined roles.
