C'MON IN The Water's Fine is a collection of stories of my love affair with being on the water, in the water and under the water in the oceans of the world, a long-lasting tryst that took me well into my seventies. Being Canadian born and growing up in British Columbia, Canada, were the beginnings of challenging and being challenged by this element, but as I drifted down through the corridors of life, my curiosity in exploring the coastlines of many other countries expanded to include our complete dependence on all water sources and their inhabitants. Much of that is at risk with the complexities of global climate change, a subject laced with misunderstanding and/or complete denial.

Some view water as an element to be conquered, or perhaps ignored, particularly from the perspective of global climate change. For me, the most compelling feelings were of serenity, wonder, history, and thankfulness, and I feel so fortunate in having had these experiences in times when the respect for waterways seemed much more apparent than currently viewed.

Now I share life with my wife, Andrea Heckman, in our home in the hills above Taos, New Mexico, hundreds of miles away from the nearest ocean, but the flow and ebb of the tides still move within me, not only upon reflecting on those days, but also in still living life to its fullest.
