A little girl’s grandfather tells her a story of a girl named Doozy. Doozy lives in a cozy cabin in the woods and loves to roam those woods with her dog Smoke. She often gets distracted and forgets the time when playing with her friends and has to walk home through the dark woods at night. In the woods, she meets an owl who warns her, through the use of idioms, that her parents are waiting for her at home. Not understanding the meaning of those warnings, Doozy rushes home and finds that those warmings have literally come true. Doozy has to explain to her unbelieving mother that she is late because of stopping to have a conversation with an owl. After three separate incidents with the owl predicting something dire waiting for her at home, Doozy promises her parents that she has learned her lesson and will not be late getting home again. Grandfather then tells his granddaughter that this story was passed along by word of mouth and that eventually when a story was told that people found hard to understand, that story was called a doozy. The little girl, agrees that she has just heard a doozy of a tale.
