Until the adventure that I am about to relate, I had been a tolerably well-behaved North Carolina boy. In 1914 Ben Muse, then 16 years old and just out of high school, decided he had behaved himself long enough. He left his family home in Durham, North Carolina, and traveled to Mexico City to observe and report on the Mexican Revolution, which was then at its height. While in Mexico he met the Primer Jefe, Venustiano Carranza, and observed his triumphal entry into Mexico City. Here are the recollections of the older Ben Muse, recording the earliest travels in what would be an adventurous life.
