This Memoir developed from the more than 200 World War II letters of my Italian-American family living in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York. There is a story to be told through the faded letters and photographs. But it is not mine. I have often wondered if it should be told at all. Have I the right to share the thoughts and emotions expressed in personal letters? Or should the emotions, sentiments, passion and mystery lie forgotten on the 75-year-old pages? This is the story of my maternal Italian-immigrant grandmother and three of her six sons who were deployed in 1942 to South Africa and to Naples, Italy, with the U.S. Army during WWII. This is my family's story as told through their letters--and mine and I have been searching to solve the mysteries within these letters.
