This is the story of a young Irishman, Vincent McCann, who joined the British Army at the outset of the First World War. Over a hundred years later, his son uncovered the records relating to Vincent’s service and wrote the fascinating account of his trials and adventures during this conflict. Vincent never spoke of the fact that he took part in the war, or that he spent the duration on the Western Front, hence the subtitle, The Long Silence.
