The Depression hit most people in the U. S. hard, so when Daddy was offered a job in Alaska Territory, for the sake of his family, he accepted. Although Daddy was flown to Alaska to begin his job, Adelaide, better known as Addie, and Momma had to drive and take a steamboat to make their way to the Territory.

The drive itself is frought with danger and adventure, but Addie and Momma are determined.

They arrived in Seattle, emptied the car's contents into a wooden crate and boarded a ship bound for Alaska.

Thus begins the adventures of Addie, her family and a dognamed Okie in Alaska Territory.
