The decisions that we make in life make us the people we are today.The consequences of those choices present a crossroad daily of how we will grow as a result. We can either wallow in self pity or move forward after the bad decision. Mistakes made in life do not doom us to a life of misery. This is the story of my relationship with my father and no matter how great a rift I had created by decisions made my father loved me. He never gave up trying to teach me and guide me in trying to be the best man that I could be. Always teaching me life skills that he had learned in his years coming of age in the Upper Peninsula.No matter how fractured our relationship became there was a place we would return to that never changed. Time spent at the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area transformed my hurt and fears, becoming a place of wonder at the unblemished view of God’s creation. My life changed during the three trips I made over my life, with all the emotions coming to the fore on my last trip back. My first since the death of my father, the story that follows is about coming to terms with a lifetime of regret in the place we felt the most peace together.
