It was founded in 1659 by settlers from Saybrook Colony. The Saybrook Colony was a short-lived English Colony of Purtain noblemen seeking political refuge from King Charles I. The records of births, deaths, and marriages begin cover the time frame of 1659-1848 with some as early as 1653.
