In the office of the Secretary of State for Rhode Island are home to four volumes of deeds which bear the title Rhode Island Land Evidence. This book is composed of 445 of these documents that have been transcribed from such things as wills, powers of attorney, indentures, agreements, settlements, ship protests, and assignments. Types of data to be found within: names of the grantor, grantee and witness, a description of the property, names of owners of adjacent properties, date of sale, names of the spouse, widow, or children. The Index mentions several thousand inhabitants of the Rhode Island Colony in the 17th century.
