In 1853, the courthouse burned destroying all probate records. The author has used many sources such as newspapers, Cemetery/Church and court records to complete this work. Many of her early settler were from northern Georgia and Fairfield County, SC. Along with the traditional history of the county, the author has included a hodge-podge collection of valuable genealogical data, such as: Lists of soldiers who served in the Revolutionary War, the Creek War of 1836-1837, Civil War and pensioner of the War of 1812; Cemetery Records; Name & Location of Cemeteries within the county; Income Tax List for 1865-1866; List of business in 1866; Miscellaneous probate records & Notices from Newspapers; Early County Marriages; Real Estate Taxes for 1856, Lists of Jurys and County Officials and other items of genealogical value. The author has even included numerous Family sketches of persons from the county: Anthony, Austin, Barge, Benson, Butler (3), Caldwell, Cooper, Crittenden, Dunham, Eskew, Flowers, Gandy, Glasgow, Lazenby, Lloyd, McKellar, Milner, Nix, Pitts, Poole, Porter, Reynolds, Seale, Sims, Stallings (3), Stevenson, Urquhart, and Wimbrey. The In?dex mentions approximately 4,500 entries of persons within this book.
