Wound healing is a complex process of repair where the skin and the tissues in an injured area repair themselves. In undamaged skin, the dermis and the epidermis constitute a protective barrier against the external environment. When this barrier is ruptured, a sequence of hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation or tissue growth and tissue remodeling occurs to repair the damage. This process of healing can be interrupted by factors, such as diabetes, infection, venous or arterial disease or metabolic deficiencies of old age, leading to the formation of non-healing chronic wounds. The major complications of wound healing include deficient and excessive scar formation, deficient contraction, exuberant granulation, dystrophic calcification, Marjolin’s ulcer, etc. Various skin substitutes, biologics, biomembranes and scaffolds are used to facilitate wound healing. This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the traditional to the contemporary clinical perspectives in the domain of wound healing. This book, with its detailed analyses and data, will prove immensely beneficial to professionals and students involved in this area at various levels.
