Nobody’s Hero

The first scream cut through the night like a knife, slicing Ronny's mind open and spilling him out of deep sleep. He leaped off the bed, his heart beating so hard he clutched his chest to contain it. At first, he thought he must have had a nightmare, but the sound of feet running from the bed- room beside him had Ronny open his door and follow. Another scream wrenched the air, sending chilling fingers of fear down Ronny's back. Bobby Jay, in his boxer briefs, jerked open Eric's bedroom door and held his hand up to stop the night man and Ronny from entering. Ronny stood in the doorway watching Bobby Jay as he pulled Eric into his arms and soothed him. "It is okay, kid. I'm here now. Could you wake up and tell me what you've learned? I've got you. Wake up, Eric."
