Murder in the Moor

Officer Peregrine 'Pithecanthropus' Smith may lack handsome features and ambition, but his intelligence and good-humor give him an edge while investigating puzzling cases. A dead man on the moors is killed with an unusual weapon, but while he had many enemies, none of them appear to have been in the right place at the right time. Smith's walking tour vacation takes a delicate path balancing 'minding his own business' with steering an overeager detective away from arresting the wrong man.
