Lieutenant Peyton Mack McWhirter, a highly respected fire officer is suspended after a fatal fire kills one of his rookies. The uninvestigated fire and his quick suspension cause concern for the fire department. Taking the advice of his rodeo bullfighter friend, Gautier Goat Thibodaux, he hits the road and heads to the gulf coast of Texas to sort things out and face his ghosts of the past and now the present.

Follow Mack as he travels the Texas backroads to the coast. Along the way, he runs across old friends and other firefighters sympathetic to his plight, bandits that are not so sympathetic, and unknowingly the devil himself.

Sunrises have always held a special spot in Mack’s heart. For him, they symbolize the end of darkness and the beginning of a new day. Despite carrying his burden and scars and being faced with evil darkness, Mack decides to make the sun rise by his own hand and begins a new day.
