Raul Eduardo Chao is a PhD graduate from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and for 20 years was a full professor and Department Chairman at the Universities of Puerto Rico and Detroit. Chao has written over 30 books, most of them in the area of contemporary history, and numerous articles and reviews in academic journals.

This book presents a collection of more than a hundred color pictures of Cuba, the most beautiful island in the American continent. It shows many grateful monuments to its founders, majestic mountains, exquisite beaches, centuries old Cathedrals, numerous revered places of learning and sacred places of worship, gorgeous cities, bays, rivers and exotic valleys, and many marvelous views across its 43 thousand square miles of coastal and territorial lands.

This seductive island of Cuba was, for many generations, a tropical paradise where you were surrounded with history, music, beauty, brilliance, character, friends, a relatively peaceful life and good conversations. Not much of what you will see in this book is new. Buildings, Churches, Avenues, as well as flora, fauna, land, infrastructure, institutions and resources, were built over four centuries of Spanish domination and half a century of republican life. Today, Cuba lives from its past efforts and diligence, hoping that present political demands do not completely spoil and devastate what so many generations of Cubans had accomplished.
