Sometimes confidence can get you places that an ID card can’t. Pearl always knew that she could do whatever was necessary. What she didn’t know was that she was born old. Pearl’s supposed birth date, two years early, was a mistake only recently discovered - in her 80s. Pearl’s achievements have been the products of a confident mind, during a life that has eschewed the norms and broken new ground. On her own at age 10, she was a chauffeur at 12, took in a disabled older sister at 16 and parented two teenaged siblings when she was 20. Only Pearl’s confidence could propel three women on a vacation trip by car from New England to Florida, when airlines were too new to be trusted. Only confidence could launch Pearl’s one-woman stand against a discriminatory corporate wage policy that paid men more than women for the same work - and only Pearl could convince the owner to change the policy!
