The Principles of Democracy

The idea of democracy, government for and by the people, is a central component of the American way of life. It has been since the country’s founders declared the United States a free nation in 1776. The principles of equality, fairness, and respect help keep democracy alive in our modern society and help ensure that all U.S. citizens are protected from injustice. Readers will learn about the democratic concepts that make the United States the great country that is it today. Readers will also examine the ways in which government provides order and keeps people safe, and how citizens can demonstrate respect for its role and their fellow citizens.
