Based on the remarkable photographic work of brothers Frank and Bert Cunningham, this pictorial history effectively captures the people and their way of life long since gone from the midcoast region. Born in the small town of Washington shortly after the Civil War, the brothers traveled narrow dirt roads by horse-drawn wagon, covering an area that encompasses nearly three hundred square miles. In their works, they preserved for us not only the people and the places of the midcoast, but also something of its character as well.
