Eleven-year-old Erskin is used to danger; she lives in the shadow of Mountainfell, a place of wild creatures and dangerous magic.

When the most powerful and deadly creature of all - the fearsome cloud dragon - snatches Erskin’s sister away, Erskin must face her greatest fear and journey onto the mountain to bring her back. A terrible power is stirring, and it is up to Erskin to save both her family and her home.

Perfect for fans of Abi Elphinstone, Sophie Anderson and Catherine Doyle.

Review

From the author of Nevertell and Glassheart comes a tale of magic and courage.

Erksin is the shy and lonely child of the Mountainkeeper – the person tasked with keeping everyone safe from the strange magic that inhabits the mountain looming over the village of Lofotby. Everyone fears Mountainfell’s dark forests and wild creatures. Most of all, they fear the dragon who is rumoured to live at its peak. When the dragon proves all too real, and swoops out of the star-studded night sky to steal away her sister, Erskin makes the brave choice to go and rescue her.

Erskin’s journey to find her sister soon unfolds into far more, testing some of her oldest beliefs and earning her a few unexpected new friends. Mountainfell is a great read for anyone who has felt like they don’t quite fit in, or for those who sometimes lose patience with their older siblings. Recommended for readers ages 9+.
