Christmas is the so-called celebration of Christ when he was born. For Romans, it was a celebration of his death, not of his birth. In fact, the Bible tells us that the Messiah was born in the springtime, not the winter. In fact, the date of Christmas (Dec 25) is related to the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. Jeremiah 10:1-5: "Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of a forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: thy must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good." Vain-Without real significance, value, or importance; baseless or worthless. Borne-To hold or remain firm under. Verse 3 says, "For the customs of people are vain." This verse means what people are doing have no real significance, pointless. Also, verse 5 says, "Thy must needs be borne." This is clearly referring to a Christmas tree stand.
