The island of Tiritiri Matangi is the last bastion for many endangered species of native New Zealand birds. The books about an octopus whose castle of shells is invaded by an anchor from a runabout with a couple of local fishing buddies. The octopus climbs up the anchor chain and even comes on board, quite angry and spraying them with ink! Its a true story of my friend Melvin, who told me years ago, and I said, Im gonna write a book about that. Octopus eat many shellfish and crustaceans with their strong parrotlike beak, the only bone in their body. Theres a huge amount of tourists and local visitors on the island every week, and Ive heard theres a shop on the island. Perhaps Ill sell them there.
