This book is a retelling of a story my father told to me and my sister almost 15 years ago about a family servant during the Civil War. While serving in Virginia during the war, my great-great-grandfather, James Alston Carson, and two of his brothers died from injuries they received in the course of battle. As the story goes, each time my great-great-great-grandfather heard that one of his sons had died in battle, he sent the family servant, George, up to Virginia to recover the remains and bring them back to Georgia to the family cemetery in Macon County, Georgia. I hope you enjoy the story.
