Amalia

Amalia begins in Santo de Serra, Madeira Island, Portugal. The story unfolds as a young girl leaves an orphanage at age five to live with her grandparents at their homestead. Her life experiences there demonstrate very humble beginnings. At age ten, she immigrates to America to be adopted by strangers and faces many obstacles.

This tale takes readers along with Amalia on her journey through tumultuous relationships, terrifying ordeals, and wonderful success (such as achieving U.S. citizenship at age nineteen). Her life’s story gives voice to an incredible journey spanning sixty-five years. About the Author

The author was born in Madeira Island, Portugal, and immigrated to America as a young child. She later became a U.S. citizen. She achieved a distinguished forty-four year career in the private and public service. She is married and lives in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she is currently writing a second book entitled Matthias’s Leap of Faith.
