Montana Territory is about to become a state. The Buttons family, among its earliest pioneers, still controls what is known as the Button Reserve. But the Omaha and Montana Cattle company wants that land and John Gannaway has led a violent land war against the Buttons family for years. Billy Buttons and his younger brother, Clyde, are the only Buttons men to have survived the war. Now Gannaway’s been murdered, and Billy is immediately accused of the crime-along with forgery and cattle rustling. With the ranch staked out and the sheriff asking for his surrender, Billy decides to turn himself in. But how can he survive a trial when the courtroom’s packed with Company men, from the U.S. attorney to members of the jury?
