THE RECONQUEST OF BURMA Volume 1
THE RECONQUEST OF BURMA Volume 2
A full assembly of all 134 maps and sketches from the Official History of the Indian Armed Forces in the Second World War 1939-45 - Campaigns in the Eastern Theatre.
The Indian Army fought in Ethiopia against the Italian Army, in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria against both the Italian and German armies and, after the Italian surrender, against the German Army in Italy.
However, the bulk of the Indian Army was committed to fighting the Japanese Army, and this is the scope of this atlas, first during the British defeat in Malaya and the retreat from Burma to the Indian border; later, after resting and refitting for the victorious advance back into Burma, as part of the largest British Empire army ever formed.
The Campaigns in the Eastern Theatre - The maps are in campaign/chronological order and include: Operations on the Tiddim Road, 17-30 May 1944; Battle for Hill 551; Retreat from Rangoon 7-10 March 1942; Defence of Pegu by 48 Ind Inf Bde., 5 March 1942; Positions on the Slim River; The crossing of the Irrawaddy by 19 Indian Division.
The maps are full size and faithful to the original cartography in all respects, allowing the reader to follow the Second World War in the south-east Asian theatre, its battles, campaigns, assaults, skirmishes and retreats, as the fighting and its various phases developed month by month, and year by year. This is a very impressive map collection that should be part of every serious military scholar's collection.
