This early work by American novelist Catharine Maria Sedgewick was originally published in 1822. Sedgewick produced such popular novels as: ‘Hope Leslie’, and ‘The Linwoods’, with the genre of her work often classified as ‘domestic fiction’. This particular work is her first novel ‘A New England Tale’. It follows the story of an orphaned girl who goes to live with an aunt in rural New England. Her aunt is an oppressive force in her life and she longs for freedom. To compliment the republication of this work, a brand new introductory biography of the author has been added.
