Stampato a Roma e qui rappresentato nel corso del carnevale del 1729 con musiche di Leonardo Vinci, il melodramma pone in primo piano la leggendaria figura della regina di Babilonia, celebre per l'intensita della sua vita amorosa. Il dramma, che mostra qualche contatto con l'omonima tragedia del Crebillon, venne musicato successivamente da molti musicisti, tra cui Porpora, Jommelli e Gluck, e parodiato infine da Paisiello nella Semiramide in villa del 1773.
