Questo saggio storico tratta di Una patrtita a scacchi di Giuseppe Giacosa e sviscera molti argomenti e curiosita. Come ammette nel prologo lo stesso Giacosa, egli si e ispirato ad una vicenda medioevale. Posso rivelarvi che la vicenda reale e accaduta nel castello di Issogne, e precisamente alla famiglia degli Challant. Per molti anni, nel forte di Verres (adiacente a quello di Issogne e che fu dello stesso proprietario) si e messa in scena quest'opera di Giacosa. La particolarita di quest'opera? In realta ve ne sono tante: la prima, l'opera teatrale e in versi; la seconda, e ispirata ad un fatto accaduto, anche se non proprio come descritto nell'opera; la terza, si tratta davvero di una partita a scacchi. Per un buon giocatore non e difficile immaginarsi le mosse, declamate peraltro dagli attori ad alta voce. Si pensera che l'opera sia barbosa , data la vicenda, l'epoca ed i versi… No! E’ un'opera che si legge con gusto.
