Travis was a young man who, upon his return from the service, was in need of making contact with Theresa, his girlfriend left behind. They reconnect eventually, but the relationship will not flow smoothly because of an alleged liaison with one of her close friends. Romantic fantasies would occupy his mind, and both of them would face a bumpy road ahead. Travis finds work in a blue-collar environment, while Theresa is taking a more upscale career path. The green-eyed monster would surface, but it would be overshadowed by Travis’ service wounds which would eventually disable him, though he puts up a very valiant fight to delay the onset. Meanwhile, Theresa experiences a bout of recklessness when she allows another young woman to stay with her and get carried away with shopping. She eventually realizes she is a taker and ousts her, but eventually finds another on-again off-again same sex friend in Laurie, who markets a product to help with mobility which Travis can eventually use. But he succumbs to the effects rapidly and dies within a year or so after onset. The theme of someone or something being needed now runs concurrently throughout the story.
