Camille (The Lady of the Camellias) is a novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils, originally published in 1848. It was later adapted for the stage and films in different European, North and South American countries. When Camille premiered at the Theatre du Vaudeville in Paris, France, in 1852, it was a big success and Giuseppe Verdi immediately put the story to music. His work became the world-wide famous opera La Traviata.
