Walter Dean Myers

As a young child, Walter Dean Myers suffered from a speech impediment. As a way of dealing with it, he spent a lot of time reading. This boy who loved comic books would become a highly regarded children’s book author. Myers, who often writes stories based on growing up in Harlem, has won numerous Corretta Scott King awards, Newbery Honor Medals, and Horn Book Awards. This well-written book discusses his life and provides insight into some of his best-known works, such as Monsters, Fast Sam, Cool Clyde, Fallen Angels, and Hoops.
