This story is set in the town of Dewberry located in Paxton County, Georgia. Criminal lawyer Lou Connors, a Dewberry native, takes on a high-profile case during a tough time in his life - while he is serving a 10-day jail sentence for contempt of court. His client is a Dewberry police detective charged with trafficking in cocaine. With the help of his chief jailer friend, as well as a series of nightly phone calls from a young female TV reporter, Lou is able to endure his sentence. Upon his release from jail, he embarks on the difficult task of trying to substantiate his client’s claim that he is being framed. Moreover, he now faces the possible loss of his law license over the contempt of court incident. During the ensuing weeks, Lou comes to the conclusion that his client is being framed. Unfortunately, this conclusion is based mostly on theory rather than proof. When the DA offers a plea to a lesser charge, the accused detective turns it down, leaving Lou no choice but to try and convince a jury to acquit his client despite the overwhelming evidence against him.
