Rosie Revere, Engineer

Andrea Beaty

From the powerhouse author/illustrator team of Iggy Peck, Architect comes Rosie Revere, Engineer, another charming, witty picture book about pursuing your passion.

Rosie may seem quiet during the day, but at night she’s a brilliant inventor of gizmos and gadgets who dreams of becoming a great engineer. When her Great, Great Aunt Rose (Rosie the Riveter) comes for a visit and mentions her one unfinished goal - to fly - Rosie sets to work building a contraption to make her aunt’s dream come true.

From the team that created the wonderful Iggy Peck, Architect comes another gem. Rosie dreams of being an engineer. She tinkers away with the bits and pieces she has collected, inventing machines and gadgets. Sadly she hides her creations after a humiliating experience but when her great, great Aunt Rose comes to visit she is inspired to create a machine for her to fly in. Does it work? Briefly! Horrified that it crashes, Rosie wants to give up but G. G. Aunt Rose tells her: ‘Life might have its failures, but this was not it. The only true failure can come if you quit.’ Then Rosie is handed a history book about women who were involved in aeronautics and their successful endeavors. Rosie tries again!

This is a charming book. The rhyme is fun, the illustrations are quirky and sometimes dolls can be part of a marvelous invention. Dream on girls!
