On the advice of his old mentor in Vienna, Martin returns to his childhood home in South Africa. But he discovers that the country has changed in his seven-year absence – and not necessarily for the better. Battling with the demons of the ‘New South Africa’, his parents have taken in a new business partner, and two families, as tenants, to improve the security and financial situation on the family estate. But it is a tenuous community of mismatched people, and everybody is thinking about leaving the place. Nonetheless, Martin attempts to improve the situation on the estate with his artistic and spiritual gifts; and gradually he finds a bond of empathy to the Land and the People. But then, one day, Martin gets drawn into a racial dispute, confronting him with the grim reality of the country. Once again, Martin draws upon the memories of his old mentor, and attempts to mediate – in the Township of Tembisa, at sundown!
