This book reprints the first volume on the University of Kentucky’s excavations at Kulubnarti in Sudan, originally published in 1996 but long out of print. The excavations at Kulubnarti remain the only detailed study of a late medieval and post-medieval landscape in the Sudan. Structures include housing, animal pens and terracing, walled compounds, a castle, churches and kourfas. Wall-paintings inscriptions and rock-art are also published and discussed.
