This story is set in France - opera designer Roland's cottage near the Mont St Michel, his apartment and the boarding school in Paris, and at Levallois where Piers is studying music. The boy Andre, formerly Piers' pupil, displays a comet-like path through the story, creating some confusion and chaos, but still devoted to the other two.
