On the planet Eloth, Aden the Star Drifter, an alien biochemist, mourns the imminent loss of his human wife after a lifetime of happiness. Desperate for a solution, he begins experiments to save her, but she refuses to submit to his plans. After her death, driven by a hatred for human frailty, he unleashes an army of his mutant creations to destroy his enemies. On planet Earth, Joshua White descends into depression and attempts suicide after his wife dies of cancer. Sent unwillingly to Eloth, he refuses to assist the human population, feeling powerless and fearing the expectations of others. Stuck in selfishness, his actions lead him towards self-destruction until he releases his grief must be conquered in order to find a way forward and stop Aden.
