This book covers the little studied history and use of American light tanks between the two World Wars. The M1 series Combat Car and the M2 series light tanks were the only service tanks built solely by and for the U.S. Army. Although nearly obsolete by the beginning of World War II, they still served in a training capacity for thousands of armor soldiers in 1941 - 1943. Their final service to the nation was to serve as hard targets for the tanks that followed in their footsteps. Inside this book is a short history of their development, photographs of them in use, and descriptions, pictures and drawings of the tactical markings of the units that utilized these vehicles to the eve of World War II.
