Poetry and prose are meant to be read aloud. As a stage performer, teacher, and director, I trained myself and others to present them as extensions of our personalities. They are not to be read mechanically like sing-songy meter police. Rather, they should flow like a river, gently or turbulently, over our lips. All of the poetry in Hitting Home come from my own experiences from childhood to adulthood and childrearing. Some of the verses were published in a book entitled A Father's Heart (2010), which is no longer in print. Many of them appear in public for the first time here. It is my wish that you will find something - at least one of the 101 poems - that inspires you to think, laugh, or create your own expressions and extensions of yourself. Hopefully some of this will hit home.
